Hands are Made For Picking Up…Trash?

At Bridging the Gap Urban Ministries (BTGUM) we don’t mind getting our hands a little dirty…literally! We are so happy to be a part of the Adopt-a-Street program. This nationally-recognized program provides a way for groups of volunteers to keep their communities clean by picking up trash.

Although we are currently only doing this program in Lynchburg, we are excited to see how we can carry this out in other communities!

We challenge you to make a change in your community. Don’t be afraid to get a little dirty, you can always wash it off. Humble yourself and be a part of the change you want o see in your community. Picking up trash is one of the many ways you can do that. Check and see if your community has an Adopt-a-Street program and get involved. We would love to hear about your experience, so make sure you sent an email to marketingpr@btgum.com and share your story!

Interested in getting involved in the Lynchburg Community?

We would love for you to join us as we clean the Lynchburg streets. Each month we dedicate three (3) hours to cleaning Florida Avenue in Lynchburg, Virginia. With your help, we could continue to make a positive impact and show this community that the people of Lynchburg care! Please follow one of the following ways to get involved:

  1. Sign up for our E-Mail list!
When you sign up for our mailing list, you will get monthly updates on what BTGUM is up to. We will keep you informed on upcoming events as well as future service projects.
  2. Check our Event Page
Our Events Page will allow you to see when our next planned events are. We make sure to put all of the details for our street clean ups on this list. Feel free to check out other events and service projects as well!
  3. Follow Us on Facebook
You can always follow us on Facebook to see when we will be cleaning the street again. Typically we try to post about five days in advance to give people time to plan.

How You Can Get Involved In Your Community

So, you don’t live in Lynchburg? No problem! Regardless of where you are located, you can always pick up trash. Our challenge to you is to just pick up trash as your see it. Whether you are going for a walk in your neighborhood or going shopping at the mall, you can always spare a second to take something to the trash can. If you see trash on the ground, pick it up…and then make sure you go wash your hands! Please leave the gum and cigarette butts to the professionals or someone with disposable gloves.
