Dirty Laundry

“Let’s do this dirty laundry, this dirty laundry…”
-Kelly Rowland, Dirty Laundry (2013)

Dirty laundry is one of those things that is inevitable. It is something that we all have and something that each and every person on this earth has got to take care of at some point. But imagine if they knew they weren’t alone.

We know what you’re thinking, what kind of dirty laundry are we talking about? When Kelly talked about it, she was talking about the unresolved issues in her life. The things she suppressed, the issues she allowed to stay damp and grow with mildew and the stench that came about as a result of that.

We could also be talking about actual dirty laundry…that’s a thought!

We want to leave the decision up to you. Take some time out this week to help someone with their dirty laundry. This challenge can be as simple or as difficult as you make it and that is exactly what we were thinking about when we came up with it. It’s these “simple” things that we tend to overlook.

Do you know how many people go to laundromats in your area? Have you ever thought about why laundromats are spelled the way it is instead of like how it sounds (laundry mats)? But we digress. Get out there and help someone with their dirty laundry. Pay for their wash and dry. Help them fold some sheets or some towels (don’t get too personal! We don’t want yall folding nobodies draws!) But we do want you to show some love for those who go to laundromats.

In addition, by doing this one simple act of kindness, we are positive that doors will be opened for you to share the gospel and your testimony. This is where you get to deal with some dirty laundry that they may have been sitting on in their personal lives. Are you ready?

You already know this wouldn’t be a blog post without some statistics, so let us drop some knowledge on you real quick:

  • The coin laundry industry is approximately 70 years old and is primarily composed of individual owner/operators.*
  • Currently, there are about 29,500 coin laundries in the United States, generating nearly $5 billion in gross revenue annually.*

Wanna learn more about the laundromat experience? Check out this blog post that gives some detail to all of the different thoughts that go through the mind of someone that goes to the laundromat: http://bit.ly/2uKDSAe. Have you had a different experience with the laundromat? We would love to hear it! Just email blackjack@btgum.com and let us know what’s up.

For those of you doing this challenge, what laundry were you able to help people clean this week? Did you have success helping pay for someone’s wash and dry cycles? Were you able to take care of some personal laundry and share the gospel? We want to know! Send us an email or let us know what’s up through social media. Either way, let’s see how much laundry we can help get clean this week!

Make Your Move.
